Press ReleaseZhone Names Bruce Roe SVP of EngineeringRoe to Lead Zhone's Edge Intelligence R&D for the Next Wave Of Multi-Service Access TechnologyOakland, CA June 4, 2008
Zhone Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZHNE), a global leader in multi-service
access equipment for VoIP, IPTV and Ethernet over copper and fiber access
lines, today announced that it has named industry veteran Bruce Roe to lead
Zhone's global engineering force.
Bruce has a 20-year record of success in building and guiding teams in the
development of market-leading products. Immediately preceding his appointment
at Zhone, Roe held the position of vice president of research and development
for Wave 7 Optics, a company he joined when it was still an early stage
startup. There, he led R&D of the company's fiber to the premises
(FTTP) and standard-based GPON products, as well as its highly successful
point-to-multi-point Ethernet optical product suite.
Prior to his tenure at Wave 7 Optics, Roe held numerous executive leadership
roles with Nortel Networks, including VP and GM of Nortel's Open IP
Portfolio where he forged strategic alliances with Motorola, IBM and Intel
among others. He also served as Nortel's VP of technology and advanced
software networking, and the company's VP of engineering. Roe joined
Nortel as a manager and held senior manager and director roles prior to moving
into the executive ranks.
"We balance the best practices of an established company with a high
degree of customer responsiveness and the kind of original thinking found in
the best start-ups," said Mory Ejabat, Zhone's chairman and CEO.
"Bruce's combined Fortune 500 and startup successes provide the ideal
mindset to lead Zhone's engineering team at this stage of the
company's growth."
"In addition to an excellent management team, Zhone's forward
technology focus and make-it-happen philosophy are outstanding
motivators," said Bruce Roe. "The company has a strong commitment to
its customers and a product innovation roadmap that is highly attuned to the
market's trajectory."
Bruce earned his BS.c in computer science and mathematics and his MS.c in
computer science from Calgary University. He also completed programs at
Columbia, Harvard, Sloan School at MIT and Stanford in strategic planning,
technology and operations, finance, and innovation and change. About Zhone Technologies -- Access for a Converging World
