Zhone Technologies Announces New FTTH Deployment with Green Hills Telephone Corporation
Missouri ILEC selects Zhone's MXK to launch advanced triple-play services to its 3,000 customers in the Midwest
Zhone Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:ZHNE), a global leader in FTTx network access solutions, today announced the addition of Green Hills Telephone Corporation as a new customer for its industry-leading FTTX solutions. Green Hills Telephone Corporation, an independent Missouri based service provider since 1952, will deploy Zhone's MXKĀ™ for its greenfield fiber point-to-point (P2P) Active Ethernet (AE) and xDSL network to enable triple play services for local residences and businesses.
The robust capabilities of Zhone's MXK platform benefits both Green Hills Telephone and its subscribers, through utilization of up to one gigabit (1GB) capacity in the home and the ability to support multiple high-definition television (HDTV) channels, high-definition digital video recorder (HD-DVR) content, video streaming and a host of other value-add services (VAS).
The industry-leading flexibility and scalability of the Zhone MXK and its ability to provide intelligent Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON), AE and xDSL connectivity facilitates network and service upgrades to FTTH. This helps future-proof the network for more advanced service rollouts. It also reduces recurring operating expenses (OPEX) and any adverse customer impact from rollout and provisioning of these next-generation services.
"With the rapid growth of content and advanced applications, our customers demand more and more bandwidth," said Steve Gann, General Manager at Green Hills Telephone Corporation. "The MXK platform provides the effective network management capabilities and overall system flexibility we needed to meet bandwidth requirements, provide higher speed services to our customers, all while positioning us for future growth with next-generation services. In our analysis and lab tests of competing FTTx offerings, Zhone's MXK platform stood out as Green Hills' choice for multi-service delivery."
Zhone has leveraged deep experience in managing the complexity of multi-service access to build the industry's most comprehensive portfolio of scalable FTTx solutions. The MXK's feature set aligns well with Green Hill's specific field requirements, enabling Zhone to provide optimum cost efficiency and maximum service differentiation in the operator's network. The service provider is also deploying Zhone's zNIDĀ™ Active Ethernet Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) for its end-points.
"Green Hills, like many other independent service providers, has tapped into the many benefits the MXK offers as an integrated multi-service platform," commented Brian Caskey, chief marketing officer for Zhone. "As a leading choice for FTTH deployments, the fully redundant, carrier-grade all-IP MXK platform allows service providers to evolve with the network and take advantage of faster ROI."
The use of the Zhone Management System (ZMSĀ™) enables seamless network management support for Zhone's multi-service network solution. The robust ZMS solution automates complex, tedious and error-prone tasks, thereby raising network productivity, improving efficiency and reducing operating costs. As an extension of the ZMS, the Zhone EZ Touch ProvisioningĀ™ solution also provides next-generation carrier-class network management and automated service provisioning, ultimately reducing recurring operational expenditures (OPEX) by minimizing truck rolls and the need for field technicians to manually turn on subscriber-specific features at each residence or business.
To date, Zhone has deployed over 2,600 of its fully redundant, carrier-grade all-IP MXK platforms with more than 150 service providers in more than 40 countries globally. Zhone's MXK platform is a fully redundant, carrier-grade all-IP platform and the industry's first terabit access concentrator. Featuring industry-leading density, scalability and switching capacity, the MXK provides non-blocking capacity of up to 3,600 100 Mbps GPON subscribers or 360 1G Active Ethernet subscribers.
