The MALC is a full-featured Broadband Loop Carrier (BLC) optimized for delivering voice, data, and video services over a pure packet access network. MALC gives carriers the flexibility to cost-effectively deliver triple play services over existing facilities. The ADSL2+ line cards for the MALC are high density modules that provide very high speed asymmetrical bandwidth for the MALC 319/719 and MALC 723 Chassis.

Zhone's ADSL2+ line cards for the MALC have 48 ports providing ADSL2+ speeds which include the ability for higher upstream speeds (up to 3Mbps) using Annex M. The ADSL2+ line cards also provide backwards interoperability with standard ADSL2, or ADSL modems, preserving previous investments in those technologies. The ADSL2+ line cards also support an optional integrated POTS splitter to reduce central office cost, installation and cabling.

In addition to standards-based ADSL2+ the line cards also support loop diagnostic capability via SELT (Single Ended Loop Test) and DELT (Dual Ended Loop Test), as well as Zhone's Multimedia Traffic Management (MTM) feature set, which includes packet QOS and rate limiting, traffic steering, and advanced packet filtering.
