Overview
The MALC is a full-featured Broadband Loop Carrier (BLC) optimized for delivering voice, data, and video services over a pure packet access network. MALC gives carriers the flexibility to cost-effectively deliver triple play services over existing facilities. The ADSL2+ line cards for the MALC are high density modules that provide very high speed asymmetrical bandwidth for the MALC 319/719 and MALC 723 Chassis.
Zhone's ADSL2+ line cards for the MALC have 48 ports providing ADSL2+ speeds which include the ability for higher upstream speeds (up to 3Mbps) using Annex M. The ADSL2+ line cards also provide backwards interoperability with standard ADSL2, or ADSL modems, preserving previous investments in those technologies. The ADSL2+ line cards also support integrated derived POTS enabling remote distribution of data and voice.
ADSL2+ Bonding is supported on this line card effectively doubling the available bandwidth to the subscriber. Bonding two ADSL lines together provides the opportunity to extend current subscriber services further from the central office. ADSL line bonding also provides more bandwidth for service subscribers looking to deploy high-revenue services such as IPTV. As with other technologies, Zhone offers a complete end-to-end bonded ADSL solution with the 6228 Bonded ADSL2+ modem.
The integrated derived POTS lines convert packet voice to PSTN POTS allowing service providers to take advantage of a low-cost packet network and still provide subscribers with traditional POTS service. The card supports packet voice protocols SIP, MGCP, and H.248. For easy migration from TDM voice to packet voice use the MALC Voice Gateway card to provide GR-303 or V5.2 termination with packet voice connection to the ADSL+POTS card at a remote site.
