MALC Line Card for Nortel EBS/p-Phone

Overview

The MALC-POTS-EBS-TDM/PKT-24 line card supports up to 24 ports of traditional POTS services or Nortel Network's Electronic Business Sets (EBS). More commonly known as p-Phone, EBS telephones are deployed throughout the world in business environments for advanced Centrex services. These sets rely on an analog-based, in-band signaling channel centered at 8kHz.

The MALC-POTS-EBS-TDM/PKT-24 line card supports both TDM voice and packet voice.

In TDM mode, GR-303 Switch Interface Groups (IG) with EBS support are connected to the MALC via a MALC-UPLINK-2-FE/GE-TDM uplink card with integrated T1s. This MALC-UPLINK-2-FE/GE-TDM uplink card supports Gigabit Ethernet packet uplinks and T1/E1 interfaces allowing the MALC to support both packet and TDM applications simultaneously.

In packet mode, the GR-303 Switch Interface Groups (IG) with EBS support are connected to the MALC via a Voice Gateway card in a MALC located in the Central Office (CO). The Voice Gateway converts the TDM voice to packet voice which can then be converted back to EBS voice at a remote MALC location. This configuration allows EBS support in locations where T1's are not currently present.

All EBS features available on the switch are available through the MALC.
