The MALC is a full-featured Broadband Loop Carrier (BLC) optimized for delivering voice, data, and video services over a pure packet access network. MALC gives carriers the flexibility to cost-effectively deliver Analog and Packet Voice services over existing facilities. The POTS and Combo ADSL2+/POTS line cards for the MALC are high density modules that provide very high speed asymmetrical bandwidth and voice for the MALC 319/719 and MALC 723 Chassis.

The MALC enables service providers to easily migrate from traditional TDM based POTS services to Packet Voice without any hardware changeouts required. For TDM POTS the service provider has the choice of connecting to Class 5 switches using GR-303 or V5.2 protocols. In addition the MALC can operate as a TDM T1/E1 for connection to channel banks and PBX's. TDM services are provided via the 8 TDM Ports on the Dual Port GigE Uplink or the 16 Port T1/E1 ATM Uplink cards, as well as from the Voice Gateway line cards. The MALC's POTS line cards and Combo ADSL2+/POTS line cards operate with any of these uplinks.
