Overview

Zhone is supports ReachDSL in the MALC, its top-rated full-featured BLC. ReachDSL is a unique technology which allows service providers to deliver broadband service to customers outside of the normal distances that are served by ADSL2+. ReachDSL has delivered service to subscribers on loops as long as 70,000ft. ReachDSL was developed by Zhone (formerly Paradyne) and began shipping in 1998 and since there have been nearly 500,000 lines deployed making it an extremely proven technology.

The ReachDSL linecard in the MALC supports 24 ports and is interoperable with all standards based ADSL modems as well as Zhone’s line of modems which support both ReachDSL and ADSL2+ technology. The linecard will automatically detect whether it is connected to a modem supporting ADSL or both ReachDSL and ADSL and automatically choose the best technology required to get the best performance on the loop.

With ReachDSL available on a line card in Zhone’s MALC BLC service providers can now ensure broadband service to their entire subscriber base as well as provide high-end Triple-play services all from a single platform.

The MALC is a full-featured Broadband Loop Carrier (BLC) optimized for delivering voice, data, and video services over a pure packet access network. MALC gives carriers the flexibility to cost-effectively deliver triple play services over existing facilities. The ReachDSL line cards for the MALC are high density modules that provide very high speed asymmetrical bandwidth for the MALC 319/719 and MALC 723 Chassis.

Get the most bandwidth out of the loop, supporting up to 8Mbps by operating in ADSL until ReachDSL is needed. ReachDSL can deliver bandwidth up to 2.2Mbps, The card automatically determines whether to use ReachDSL or ADSL. Full compabel with any standard ADSL modem or use Zhone 63xx Family of CPE to take full advantage of Reach DSL, ReachDSL is full capable of Symmetric Operation in ReachDSL mode as will as full Astmetric bandwidths. Due to the fact that most interference is caused by disturbers in the ADSL downstream frequency band, not in the upstream frequency band ReachDSL is imuinute to these issues, eachDSL only operates in the ADSL upstream frequency band

In addition to Zhone's ReachDSL technology and standards-based ADSL the line cards also support loop diagnostic capability via Zhone's MALC Ehanced MTAC as well as Zhone's Multimedia Traffic Management (MTM) feature set, which includes packet QOS and rate limiting, traffic steering, and advanced packet filtering.
