Zhone's Ethernet Access Products offer a variety of robust, carrier class Ethernet Access Devices (EADs) and high-density Ethernet aggregation for both fiber and copper applications. EtherXtend products include 802.3ah-compliant Ethernet over bonded SHDSL (2Base-TL), as well as Ethernet over bonded T1/E1, DS3/E3 and fiber based Active Ethernet, enabling Ethernet access services over any distance. EtherXtend EADs can be used together in point-to-point or multi-point applications, or they can be aggregated into Zhone's Multiple Access Loop Carrier (MALC), providing high-density Ethernet aggregation as well as fiber optic aggregation, ADSL2+, POTS, and TDM based services -- all from a single shelf. In addition, Zhone Ethernet Access products are fully backwards compatible with the IPD12000 IP DSLAM and all Network Extender products.

Active Ethernet / Ethernet Fiber Access - 100Mbps/GigE

At the core of Zhone's EtherXtend portfolio is the MXK which includes the ability to aggregate multiple Ethernet based fiber services using Active Ethernet. The technology enables service providers to deploy services to businesses and residences using dual fiber and single fiber options at distances as great as 80km from the central office or remote terminal. Zhone's Active Ethernet solution supports the ability to deploy a mix of copper and fiber based services and a mix of 10/100/1000Mbps speeds.

EFM / Ethernet Copper Access

The MALC is the ideal platform for high-density EFM aggregation. The MALC supports line cards for 2Base-TL EFM over SHDSL, or Ethernet over T1/E1, providing enough concentration to support hundreds of EFM lines over copper, at data rates ranging from 1.54 Mbps for a single T1, to over 45 Mbps using 8 pairs of bonded SHDSL. Ethernet access over copper provides the reliability and flexibility needed to offer true Ethernet services to all of your customers, including those without fiber connectivity.

EtherXtend High-speed Ethernet Access Devices / CPE

EtherXtend Access Devices can support from one to eight bonded SHDSL (2Base-TL) or Ethernet over T1/E1 connections. In addition to point-to-point applications, EtherXtend EADs may be aggregated into Zhone's MALC, supporting hundreds of Ethernet access lines per shelf. Ethernet Access lines can be used to serve individual customers or to provide high-speed bonded connections to those customers requiring more bandwidth. 2Base-TL offers up to 45Mbps, while Ethernet over T1/E1 offers up to 12Mbps (16Mbps for E1).

Cabinets / Remote Deployments

The EtherXtend Ethernet access portfolio is suitable for remote deployment, and is built to outside plant environmental requirements. EtherXtend is suitable for use within Zhone's full line of outside plant cabinets, completely engineered to support Zhone's MALC and EtherXtend products. Back in the Central Office, EFM line cards within the MALC can even provide line power, simplifying power delivery to remotely installed products that support line power.
