As service providers strive to respond to customer demand and competition, cost-effective enhancement of their access networks continues to increase in priority. In many situations meeting demand for higher bandwidth and better quality of user experience through fiber to the premise is not practical, and operators must achieve higher service goals over copper infrastructure.

With the launch of its new Bitstorm HP and RP solutions, Zhone adds two valuable options for supporting advanced multi-play services over copper, through VDSL2 and bonded ADSL2+.

Bitstorm HP 100/100 for Multi-Stream HD and Immersion Video over Copper

Based on the newest media-optimized, standards-based VDSL2 chipsets from Ikanos, Bitstorm HP is designed expressly for multi-stream high-definition and immersion game media, where bandwidth demands are intense and quality-of-service demands are uncompromising. Optimized for crosstalk management at distances up to 5,000 feet, Bitstorm HP provides the maximum bandwidth available over single-pair copper today. Bitstorm HP is a 1 Rack Unit (RU), environmentally hardened platform, ideal for Multi Tenant Units (MTUs) basements or outdoor cabinets. The HP model also supports ADSL2+ fallback, critical for the successful deployment of VDSL2 in real-world conditions, where loop quality can vary significantly.

Bitstorm RP for Maximum Flexibility in ADSL2+ Deployments

Bitstorm RP is a high-density 1.5 RU IP/Ethernet DSLAM designed for best in class performance and low overhead operations. A code extension of the popular Zhone/Paradyne DSLAM series, Bitstorm RP provides field proven performance with a state-of-the-art feature set including ADSL 2+ bonding (enabling services up to 45 Mbps over two copper pairs), built in splitters, and dual Gig E and Fast Ethernet uplink ports. Other new features include hot-swap servicing and single click configuration with automatic line recognition. Bitstorm RP supports bridged mode or advanced layer operations for premium Quality of Service (QoS) smart home or business applications.
