ETHX-21xx

Firmware Version 1.00.02

July 17, 2007

New Features and Enhancements

New Features

  • Added ability to interoperate with legacy Network Extenders (SNE2000G, SNE2020G, and SNE2040G), IPD SHDSL Line Cards (SIM2000-24), MiniDSLAMs (SMD-2000-24) and MicroDSLAMs (SµD2011). Maximum line rate supported with these legacy devices remains at 2.3 Mbps.

Bug Fixes

  • Addressed an issue that prevented multicast traffic from being bridged through the device.
  • Addressed an issue where SHDSL Port #2 could experience excessive bit errors or dropped packets.
  • Resolved a number of rate & reach and stability issues when operating in Fixed Data Mode.

Known Restrictions and Limitations

The following are known issues and limitations of Version 1.00.02:

Manual Mode for 10/100BT LAN Ports

  • Setting the 10/100BT LAN ports to manual mode operation is not currently supported, and is planned for a future software release. DIP switches #5-#7 are currently ignored by the device, and the LAN ports will remain in auto-negotiate independent of these switch settings.

SHDSL.bis Data Rates Supported

  • The EtherXtend SHDSL LT supports all data rates from 192 through 5,696 Kbps, in increments of 64 Kbps. Not all 8 Kbps sub-rate increments are supported.

ESIM5700-48 Interop:

  • Circuits will not train in Adaptive Mode at approximately 17 Kft if connected to an ESIM5700-48 card. If a customer experiences this problem, they should use fixed rate mode for problem circuits.
  • When interconnecting to an ESIM5700 card in fixed rate mode and set to 3648, 3584, 3456, 3264, or 3200 Kbps, customers will need to manually set the ESIM5700 constellation to TCPAM32 to get the circuits to successfully train at these rates.
  • Circuits will not train with an ESIM5700 card when set to a fixed rate mode of 3776 Kbps.

SIM2000-24 Interop:

  • When interconnecting to a SIM2000-24 card at a fixed rate mode of 784 Kbps, Rx errors can occur at approximately 15 Kft, 19 Kft and 20Kft loop lengths.

ETHX-SHDSL-4|8 Access device:

  • When interconnecting to an ETHX-SHDSL-4|8 EtherXtend Access Device using Adaptive Rate mode, the two SHDSL circuits (on a 2-port ETHX-21xx device) may train at different rates at approximately 4Kft and 11Kft loop lengths. When this occurs, upstream bandwidth (to the ETHX-SHDSL-4|8 device) is typically not affected, but downstream throughput can be impaired. If a customer encounters this issue, they should use fixed rate mode to ensure that both circuits train at the same rate.

Compatibility Issues

Firmware version 1.00.02 is not compatible with units that have a BOOT code version lower than 1.00.03. This is mostly limited to pre-GA units shipped prior to June 22, 2007. Any unit with older BOOT code will need to have the PROM updated before upgrading to this or any future releases.
