Software Increment Release Notes ================================ Increment ID: I38A1730 Release: AN1730 Date created: 10-31-2002 Increment Type: OPC Title: OPC: ISD enhancements, Reboot Load Manager and others. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Following is a list of issues addressed in this Increment. See below for more details. 1. Reboot Load Manager may not open on large spans of control. 2. Add DTAP and STS1 AID definitions for use with TL1 OSS interfaces. 3. ISD rebuilds take too long. 4. ISD prevents an image dump when a rebuild is needed. 5. Installing ANX increments causes ISD to not respond. 6. ISD rebuild for ANX and TDM loads. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Reboot Load Manager may not open on large spans of control. * Description: On OPC spans of control that have fourteen or greater Network Elements commissioned, the Reboot Load Manager may fail to open. * Impact: Unable to monitor Network Element loading progress. * Pre-Increment work-around: Retry opening the tool until successful. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Add DTAP and STS1 AID definitions for use with TL1 OSS interfaces. * Description: The DTAP (NT4K57GA or NT4K57GB) and STS1 mapper cards (NT7E09AA) were not properly defined in the OPC. This change allows for TL1-based OSS's to properly identify alarms related to these circuit packs. * Impact: OSS components would not be able to correctly identify the alarms and events generated from the DTAP and STS1 circuit packs. * Pre-Increment work-around: None. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. ISD rebuilds take too long. * Description: Customers who have large deployments of the Universal Edge 9000 report that ISD rebuilds take a long time to complete. * Impact: ISD rebuilds take a long time, over an hour to complete. * Pre-Increment work-around: None. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. ISD prevents an image dump when a rebuild is needed. * Description: When the ISD tool detects that a rebuild of the ISD database is needed, the tool did not allow an image dump to be started. Should a rebuild be necessary, then the presence of a bad image on the OPC could prevent a node from successfully completing a load operation. The change in this increment will now allow for an image dump to commence even if a rebuild of the ISD database is needed. * Impact: The presence of a bad image can cause a Network Element to fail to load and come up in-service. Without the application of this increment, dumping a new image when a rebuild is needed would not be possible. * Pre-Increment work-around: If a new image is needed, alternative methods such as ftp must be used. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. Installing ANX increments causes ISD to not respond. * Description: In some customer sites, applying ANX increments will cause the ISD application function to suspend, and the tool will not respond. This has been seen on systems that do not have any ANX equipment installed. The first increment "applies", and is marked as "not applicable" by the ISD tool. Subsequent ANX increments will cause the tool to suspend, and ISD can only be manually shut down. These ANX patches then display as "failed", and will always show up in the ISD tool as needing to be applied. After the application of this increment, ANX patches will be able to be applied. In the conditions noted in the field to date (only systems that do not house ANX equipment have demonstrated this fault), the remaining ANX increments will be marked as "Not Applicable", and be removed from the list of increments to be applied. * Impact: The list of increments marked as needing to be applied will continually show these increments, but attempting to apply them will cause the tool to suspend. Other increments will apply as normal. * Pre-Increment work-around: Do not attempt to apply ANX increments on systems that display this behavior. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. ISD rebuild for ANX and TDM loads. * Description: Field operations have uncovered a situation where multiple TDM and ANX loads can be presented as needing to be applied. As load increments are load replacements for the device, the last increment includes all changes the previous increments included. This means that only the last increment need be applied. This software increment changes the way ISD determines the requirements for ANX and TDM increments, and will only show the latest increment as needed to be applied (if in fact a ANX or TDM increment needs to be applied). This increment should reduce the amount of time that a craftsperson would spend updating their network of all ANX or TDM increments. For instance, if the telco installed a new node to the span of control that contained UEs, then the ISD tool could show that several increments would need to be applied. With this change, only one will be marked as needing to be applied. * Impact: The craftsperson would spend time applying increments, only to have the load entirely replaced by a later increment. * Pre-Increment work-around: Apply each increment in order. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Increments Needed: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Increments I01A1730 through I37A1730 need to be successfully applied prior to application of this increment. Loads Affected: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- After successful application of this increment, the OPC load will be: ACNL17BZ Special Instructions: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- None. Installation Instructions: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Please refer to the Incremental Software Delivery Users Guide for general installation instructions.
