Software Increment Release Notes ================================ Increment ID: I34A1800 Release: AN1800 Date created: 9-15-2002 Increment Type: APU Title: APU: SAA12 recovery on UE. TDM thrashing. TCSFWDL. Image data. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Following is a list of issues addressed in this Increment. See below for more details. 1. Power-down recovery enhancement for SAA-12 cards on UE shelves. 2. Prevent TDM loads from being convicted as "non-production". 3. Remove password protection for TCSFWDL. 4. Prevent ISD image dumps from retaining node-specific data. 5. Autonomous reset of Omega Linecards. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Power-down recovery enhancement for SAA-12 cards on UE shelves. * Description: For customers who have a large number of SAA-12 UE line cards (NTNP41AA), outage situations involving the loss of the UE shelf would take an extended time to recover. This increment by-passes some of the diagnostic tests involved in returning to service the customers on the SAA-12 card from a power recovery, thereby returning the card to service quicker and restoring the UE shelf faster. * Impact: Outage time is reduced for subscribers on the UE shelf, and recovery for the UE shelves has been optimized. * Pre-Increment work-around: Remove the TDM cards in the UE shelves to allow one shelf at a time to recover when multiple heavily-loaded UE shelves have lost power. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Prevent TDM loads from being convicted as "non-production". * Description: When changing the TDM load being used by the AccessNode UE shelves, the file used to keep track of which load is in use was not being properly updated. The changes made to this file could result in the TDM being flagged as having a non-production load, even though the load being utilized is correct. When this condition exists, the NE would raise a "firmware mismatch" alarm on the UE shelves. Should this condition exist during a UE outage recovery, the TDM would not be able to load. * Impact: On outage recoveries, the TDMs would not be able to load, resulting in a total loss of dialtone on the effected shelf. In the case of an ABM processor switch or restart, the TDMs would be flagged as having non-production load and raise a "firmware mismatch" alarm, although dialtone may be present. * Pre-Increment work-around: Log into the NE with admin privileges. Enter the UEUPGCI tool. Execute the GETCATALOGUE REL_1800 command. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Remove password protection for TCSFWDL. * Description: This increment takes away the requirement for the password of the day from the TCSFWDL tool. This tool is used when upgrading the firmware on OC12 VTBM circuit packs (NT7E05 series). * Impact: None. * Pre-Increment work-around: Contact Zhone GSS for the password of the day at 1-877-Zhone-20 (1-877-946-6320). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Prevent ISD image dumps from retaining node-specific data. * Description: In rare cases, the ISD image dump would contain data specific to the node dumping an image. Such data included users and passwords, as well as some private data pertaining to node and shelf type. * Impact: New nodes brought into service could have data already present that could interfere with initial commissioning. * Pre-Increment work-around: Switch the AccessNode processors and dump another image using the ISD tool. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. Autonomous reset of Omega Linecards. * Description: A condition exists whereby the AccessNode processor could convict the Omega linecard as needing a reboot. This would result in an LC602 log with the text 'Auto Recovery Initiated' and a momentary loss of dial tone or a call cutoff. This change will reduce the chance of an Omega linecard (NT4K67 and NTNP41 series) resetting autonomously. * Impact: During a linecard reset, the card is not available for call processing. * Pre-Increment work-around: None. Increments Needed: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Increments I01A1800 through I33A1800 need to be successfully applied prior to application of this increment. Loads Affected: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- After successful application of this increment, the APU load will be: ACCL18BC ATBL18BC Special Instructions: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- None. Installation Instructions: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Please refer to the Incremental Software Delivery Users Guide for general installation instructions.
