Software Increment Release Notes ================================ Increment ID: I38A1800 Release: AN1800 Date created: 6-13-2003 Increment Type: APU Title: ANX robustness, Provisioning Manager enhancement, TXC CLEI ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Following is a list of issues addressed in this Increment. See below for more details. 1. ANX recovery robustness 2. Improve ABM responses to the OPC Provisioning Manager. 3. TXC CLEI codes 4. Entity set robustness to eliminate restart reloads during upgrades. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. ANX recovery robustness * Description: Large ANX deployments (20 VM's per HDT and higher) have had issues where the LAIC's would both fail during different system actions. Such actions include the switching of processors at the ABM shelf, committing ANX increments from ISD as well as an event that causes the total loss of transport from the ABM shelf to the ANX systems. This increment improves ANX robustness by: - Providing CI commands which allow adjusting the number of ANX shelves recovered simultaneously following a ABM switch of activity, ABM restart or ANX loss of communication condition. Go to ANXRECOVERY command increment on the NE after applying this patch, and type "HELP" for more details. - Changing the default number of ANXs recovered at a time after a ABM switch of activity to 2. This value can also be changed from the ANXRECOVERY CI tool. - Introducing a 5 second delay between the commit of each ANX on the HDT during ANX patching. In order to set the newly introduced recovery mechanisms, please refer to the Special Instructions section. * Pre-Increment Impact and work-around: Both LAIC packs could fail, causing a total system outage. Should both LAIC packs fail during a swact, the loss of transport or the application of an ANX increment, remove the LAIC packs and place the DS1 interfaces OOS at the fwpui. Place the LAIC packs back in the system, and place the DS1 facilities back IS one at a time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Improve ABM responses to the OPC Provisioning Manager. * Description: The OPC Provisioning Manager could open without complete data for all the Network Elements due to incomplete or missing responses from the Network Elements in the span of control. This increment improves the response time and data from the Network Element to OPC requests from the Provisioning Manager. Depending on what data was returned, sites with this issue would not be able to add or query circuits for some Network Elements. * Pre-Increment Impact and work-around: The Provisioning Manager could fail to open, or could fail to retrieve data from all nodes in the span of control. Should this occur, use TL1 directly in cases where the tool would not provide proper node access. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. TXC CLEI codes * Description: The TXC CLEI codes would appear in the inventory screens with multiple questions marks (i.e. SAIU?????). This increment will eliminate the question marks, and replace them with their proper values. * Pre-Increment Impact and work-around: None. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Entity set robustness to eliminate restart reloads during upgrades. * Description: An upgrade issue has been discovered where swacts to the new software release could drop all traffic. This issue has been seen on some sites when performing upgrades during high traffic periods. * Pre-Increment Impact and work-around: All calls could drop during the upgrade swact to the new load. The system will automatically recover after the restart reload completes. Care should be exercised to upgrade the system during low traffic periods, as recommended in the Upgrades documentation. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Increments Needed: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Increments I01A1800 through I37A1800 need to be successfully applied prior to application of this increment. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Loads Affected: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- After successful application of this increment, the APU load will be: ACCL18BC ATBL18BC ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Special Instructions: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This increment provides the ability to adjust ANX recovery parameters. To ensure any changes to these parameter survive a ABM boot, an image must be taken following any changes to the ANX recovery parameters. Please note, these changes will not survive a system software upgrade. Removal of this increment will require a warm restart or a double switch of activty of the APUs. Failure to do so may impact the communications recovery time of ANX shelves. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Installation Instructions: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Please refer to the Incremental Software Delivery Users Guide for general installation instructions.
