Software Increment Release Notes ================================ Increment ID: I05A1905 Release: AN1905 Date created: 3-1-2003 Increment Type: APU Title: APU: ANX patching, SSMAN, ADSL 4+4, Provisioning Manager ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Following is a list of issues addressed in this Increment. See below for more details. 1. Stagger ANX patching commit phase - LAIC robustness 2. Silent Switchman updates to allow UE and UER test completion 3. ADSL 4+4 card template changes to improve hardware stability 4. Improve ABM responses to the OPC Provisioning Manager. 5. Entity set robustness to eliminate restart reloads during upgrades. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Stagger ANX patching commit phase - LAIC robustness * Description: Large ANX deployments (20 VM's per HDT and higher) have had an issue where the LAIC's would both fail during the commit portion of applying increments. This change introduces a 5 second delay between the commit of each ANX on all HDT's. Each ANX continues to operate normally on the previous load, and performs a restart once it has been told to commit to the new load, now at 5 second intervals. * Pre-Increment Impact and work-around: Both LAIC packs failing will cause a total system outage. Should both LAIC packs fail during the application of an ANX increment, remove the LAIC packs and place the DS1 interfaces OOS at the fwpui. Place the LAIC packs back in the system, and place the DS1 facilities back IS one at a time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Silent Switchman updates to allow UE and UER test completion * Description: This increment incorporates changes to allow the DMS family of switches to perform the Silent Switchman test on both the UE and UER platforms. Note that subsequent increments I06A1905 and I07A1905 must be applied in order for the test to function properly. * Pre-Increment Impact and work-around: The Silent Switchman test will not function to UE or UER shelves without this and the companion increment. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. ADSL 4+4 card template changes to improve hardware stability * Description: Changes are introduced in this increment to provide additional protection to the ADSL 4+4 card (NTNP44AA) against sudden changes in loop current from adversely affecting the ADSL 4+4 hardware. The changes in this increment will operate protection relays in such a manner as to provide maximum protection against destructive loop current. Note that increments I06A1905 and I07A1905 must be applied to provide total operability of this increment. * Pre-Increment Impact and work-around: NTNP44AA circuit packs could fail during power surge events. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Improve ABM responses to the OPC Provisioning Manager. * Description: The OPC Provisioning Manager could open without complete data for all the Network Elements due to incomplete or missing responses from the Network Elements in the span of control. This increment improves the response time and data from the Network Element to OPC requests from the Provisioning Manager. Sites with this issue would not be able to add or query circuits for some Network Elements, depending on what data was returned. * Pre-Increment Impact and work-around: The Provisioning Manager could fail to open, or could fail to retrieve data from all nodes in the span of control. Should this occur, use TL1 directly in cases where the tool would not provide proper node access. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. Entity set robustness to eliminate restart reloads during upgrades. * Description: An upgrade issue has been discovered where swacts to the new software release could drop all traffic. This issue has been seen on some sites when performing upgrades during high traffic periods. * Pre-Increment Impact and work-around: All calls could drop during the upgrade swact to the new load. The system will automatically recover after the restart reload completes. Care should be exercised to upgrade the system during low traffic periods, as recommended in the Upgrades documentation. Increments Needed: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Increments I01A1905 through I04A1905 need to be successfully applied prior to application of this increment. Loads Affected: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- After successful application of this increment, the APU load will be: ACCL19HI ATBL19HI Special Instructions: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- None. Installation Instructions: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Please refer to the Incremental Software Delivery Users Guide for general installation instructions.
