  1. Feature Enhancements / Functional Changes

This release of the 5620 RADSL Service Node software supports

• Supports IP Port Filtering

• 802.1D Learning Bridge w/up to 256 MAC addresses

• Last Gasp feature and the 5620-A3-XXX Last Gasp hardware The 5620-A3’s are functionally the same as the A2 model, but the A3 model now, additionally supports a powerful new network management feature called "Power Down Notification" or Last Gasp.

WHAT IS "POWER DOWN NOTIFICATION"?

The –A3 endpoint will send notification to the Network Management System (NMS) when it loses power. The -A3 endpoint has been designed to store enough auxiliary power that upon detecting a power outage, at the customer premises, will send multiple NMS alarms upstream before shutting down completely. The Network Service Provider (NSP) now has an additional management tool to help differentiate between alarms representing a power loss at the endpoint, an endpoint failure or a copper loop disruption.

This new NMS notification feature allows the Network Service Provider to effectively manage the DSL network by providing a more detailed analysis concerning the health of the network during an alarm situation. Different response teams and procedures can be correctly activated depending on the type of alarm received by the NMS. With the new "Power Down Notification" feature, Hotwire 5620 RADSL endpoints will notify the NMS of a specific CPE power-related alarm, thereby providing the NMS operator with the required information to cost-effectively and quickly satisfy the customer’s service quality expectations. The "Power Down Notification" feature ONLY sends a trap alarm upstream on the DSL link.
