Feature Enhancements / Functional Changes

The DSL router provides endpoint router networking capabilities in support of the 8303 and 8304 IDSL line cards. This can be configured to function in a variety of network environments. The sections below provide descriptions of some of the DSL router features:

Before customers can be serviced using IDSL, the following items must be verified:

The CPE cannot be > 18,000 feet (16.5 Kft of 26 gauge and 1.5 Kft of 24 gauge no bridged tap) from the LT card in the DLC.
The IDSL transport between the BRITE cards in the channel banks must be capable of and provisioned for clear channel (64K per bearer). If not, the customer’s data will be corrupted.
The BRITE cards should be T1.601 compliant in order to assure interoperablilty.

Compatibility With Other Released Models

The ARP entry associated with the upstream Next Hop Router for the DSL Router can not be deleted if the DSL interface is unnumbered and the Next Hop Router is in the same subnet as the Ethernet interface. Although the ARP entry appears to be deleted, a subsequent creation of a static ARP entry to the upstream Next Hop Router will result in the existence of two ARP entries.
Entering Ctrl-] to terminate a TELNET session to the DSL Router while it is running a test (ping/traceroute), will result in the test never being terminated. The message "there are tests running, please try again later" will be displayed for all requests to run a test for all subsequent TELNET/console sessions until the DSL Router is reset.
When IP processing is disabled on the DSL Router R2, packets are still forwarded over the DSL link if originated from the DSL Router R2.
The arp timeout incomplete command uses the wrong default value. Uses 3 seconds instead of 5 seconds.
Land Bug attack packets are being discarded, but are not being counted by the DSL Router when NAT/NAPT is enabled.
Embedded headers with IP options are not successfully translated when NAT is enabled.
Out of order fragment packets is not support by the DSL Router R2 implementation of NAT. This means that it expects the first packet of a fragmented stream to be received first prior to the receipt of any other packets of that stream.
Packets with source addresses outside of the private address space are currently being translated by NAT. These packets should go through untranslated.
