Configuration/PPP

Use the Configuration / PPP screen to configure a T1 or E1 port as a Point to Point Protocol (PPP) port.

To configure a PPP port:

  2. Enter or select the appropriate parameters as shown in the following table.

Parameter

Description

Bridge Control Protocol

Specify whether the Bridge Control Protocol will be negotiated for the PPP link.

Frame Control Sequence Size

Select the Frame Control Sequence (FCS) size the local node should attempt to negotiate with the remote node. Regardless of the value of this field, the local node will comply with the FCS size negotiation initiated by the remote node. A change to this field will take effect the next time the link is restarted.

Keep Alive Quiet Time

Specify the Keep Alive Quiet Time in seconds. This is the frequency at which Link Control Protocol (LCP) echo requests are sent during periods of no activity on the link. Valid values are 0–3600.

Keep Alive Timeout

Specify the Keep Alive Timeout in seconds. This is the amount of time the DSLAM will wait for an LCP echo reply before bringing the link down. Valid values are 0–300.

Magic Number

Specify whether or not to negotiate a magic number for the link. The magic number is used to help detect Data Link Layer anomalies.

Maximum Receive Unit

Specify the Maximum Receive Unit (MRU) size to be permitted on the link.

Address and Control Field Compression

Specify whether address and control field compression is to be used on the link. Compression is applicable only if the port is configured to be part of an MLPPP bundle.

Protocol Field Compression

Specify whether protocol field compression is to be used on the link. Compression is applicable only if the port is configured to be part of an MLPPP bundle.
